Today we went the first time to school. We met at Conolly Station at 8:30 with the teachers. Then they showed us the way to the school. We met our teachers for the week and started with „get-to-know-eachother“- games. Then we had a break and went outside and made an selfie-challenge. After that we had two hours lunch break before we had a tour through the Jeanie Johnston ship. Our tour guide was really kind and told us everything about the story of the famine. There was an potato famine in the 18th century and a lot of irish people died. They tried to escape with the help of the Jeanie Johnston ship and fled to America. He told us stories about how they were treated better on the Jeanie Johnston than on other ships but they also had to pay a lot of money for it. But they were fed and on other ships they weren‘t. They only were allowed to go up the deck for half an hour but the rest of the time they had to stay in the basement of the ship. He also told a story about a woman and her husband who would got up the Jeanie Johnston but they had a newborn baby, so the captain said they couldn‘t come with them because it would be too dangerous, but the doctor of the ship said that he would look after the family and the baby and everything went alright. Also noone has died on the Jeanie Johnston. Sadly it wasn‘t the original ship. Our tour was one hour and the we went together to Malahide. In Malahide Castle Park we met our GAA Sports trainer and he was really kind. He showed us the Hurling techniques and we made little competitions. After that he showed us how to play Gaelic Football and he said afterwards that the class of last year was much better than our class, but it was much fun and a little bit confusing. Lastly everyone drove back to their host familys.
